Sangkhlaburi District, Kanchanaburi, Thailand

Sangkhlaburi DistrictSANGKHLABURI, a sleepy town of 15,000, is located 340 km northwest of Bangkok in Kanchanaburi Province. Its location at Khao Laem (Vajiralongkorn) Lake and the surrounding National Parks and Thung Yai Wildlife Sanctuary make Sangkhlaburi one of the most beautiful districts among the many tourist destinations in Thailand.

Most of Sangkhlaburi's population includes many ethnic groups such as the Mon, Karen, Burmans, Lao and even Burmese Muslims from Arakan state in western Burma. The ethnic conflicts of earlier decades have largely been sorted out. Sangkhlaburi now guarantees a peaceful multi-ethnic environment.

Thailand's (perhaps East Asia's) longest Wooden Bridge spans across Vajiralongkorn Lake in Sangkhlaburi. It is 400 meters long and was constructed by the Mon to make a shortcut between their settlement Wang Kha and the town of Sangkhlaburi.

Beside the natural heritage, Sangkhlaburi offers interesting markets, stunning lakeside views and opportunities for adventurous activities.
